STOCKTON — With Chris Chavez keeping the Spreckels Park batters off balance, Northgate’s Israel Leon belted a seventh-inning triple and scored on Isaiah Lynch’s sacrifice fly to put his team ahead by a run.

Chavez struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 3-2 win for Northgate in the semifinal of the District 67 Juniors All-Star Tournament at Paul Weston Park.

Patterson and Spreckels Park meet in the consolation final tonight with the winner advancing to the championship game against Northgate on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Chavez took the mound with one across, runners on first and second and one out in the third inning. Chavez retired the next two batters, struck out seven, gave up no hits and did not allow a Spreckels Park runner past second. He even picked off a runner at first.

In the third inning, Northgate’s Cash Lee (2 for 3) snuck a two-out single out of the infield, stole second, was advanced to third on a Noah Navarro single and came in to score on an error off the bat of Anthony Oteri to make the score 1-1. Navarro was awarded home on a balk to put Northgate ahead 2-1.  

Jacob Morrow reached and scored on an error in the first inning to give Spreckels Park an early 1-0 lead. Morrow walked in the third inning, stole second, took third on a passed ball and tied the game at 2-2 when he came in on a sacrifice fly by Cameron Diego.

 

Patterson 6, Ripon 2

Patterson scored two runs in the fifth and added another in the sixth to add a cushion and move on in the consolation bracket.

Leading 3-2 coming into the fifth, Stephen Lawrence (2 for 2, two doubles, two runs) led off the frame for Patterson with a double. Thomas Tretheway singled to advance Lawrence who came  in on Tyler Thorpe’s single. Tretheway scored on a Navarro Thomas groundout.

Jehron Arriola scored both runs for Ripon. He singled in the second and eventually stole home and he walked to lead off the fifth, went to second on Calvin Ryans’ walk, took third on a single by Landon Kackley (3 for 4) and scored on a Benjamin Svoboda groundout.

Patterson plays Spreckels Park tonight at 7 in the consolation final.
