The Giants sent the top-seeded Pirates to the consolation bracket of the Northgate Little League junior-division playoffs behind a big fifth inning with a convincing 12-3 win Monday at Morenzone Field.

The Giants were patient in their five-run fifth, drawing five walks and getting hit once. Drew Mount (3 for 3, double, RBI) had the lone hit in the inning for the Giants with a double.

The Pirates took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk to Gary Alexander that plated Asiah Scott followed by Tyres Harper scoring on a wild pitch. The Pirates did not score again until the fifth when Scott walked and when the ball sailed into center field on a steal attempt Scott came all the way home.

The Giants scored three in the sixth behind an RBI double by Austin Driscoll, an RBI single by George Montross and a bases-loaded walk to Jake Lill. Montross knocked in Sammy Nieves and Driscoll in the second inning with a single and finished 3 for 3 with a walk, two RBI and a run.

Giants leadoff hitter Phillip Luevano was 2 for 4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs.

Jamari Milligan was 2 for 3 with a double for the Pirates and teammate Fernando Segura was 2 for 3 with a walk.
