Manteca businesses are gearing up for what promises to be the busiest sales day of the year.

The day after Thanksgiving is dubbed Black Friday and usually attracts scores of early bird shoppers in search of the best deals.

“Black Friday, traditionally, signals the start of the holiday season,” said Steve Hernandez, store manager of JC Penney.

His store located in The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley is one of the newcomers to the Manteca “Black Friday” experience.
“We’ve certainly been gearing up for the big day,” he said on Wednesday.
Open since March, the retail store at 1060 Perimeter Drive will open its doors at 4 a.m. Friday with special “Door buster” deals (through 1 p.m.) and free gifts.

Can’t get up early?

JC Penney is providing wake-up calls with the likes of Cindy Crawford, Kimora Lee Simmons and Rascal Flatts providing audio messages.

Once here, shoppers can pick up items from the JC Penney “red box gift” collection featuring must-have private, exclusive and national brands while taking advantage of the special sales from throughout the store.

The local JC Penney showcases both the Sephora beauty boutique and the American Living collection of fashions for men, women, children and home.

Those planning to brave the conditions by waiting in line during the wee hours may feel a little safer with the presence of The Promenade security staff.

Security will also make its rounds to the nearby Bass Pro Shops.

For the second straight year, the sporting goods store will be having its second-ever Black Friday camp-out event.

Bass Pro will open its door at 6 o’clock.

Operation manager Jackson Felt said that those looking to get an early jump on Bass Pro’s sales and other promotions can do so in the comforts of their tent, camper, or RV.

Free coffee and donuts will be available for the first 300 customers, with the new model Toyota 4-Runner scheduled to be unveiled that day.

Bass Pro, in addition, will feature giveaways to go along with the five-hour sale.

“We’ve been getting the store ready (for the holidays) for the last week and a half,” Felts said.
