TRACY – The buzz on the new Altima at Tracy Nissan ranges from the zero-gravity seats to an engine that packs more of a wallop with improved fuel efficiency.

According to long-time salesman Tom King, the zero-gravity technology was developed by NASA based on posture research.

“The design takes the weight off your lower back, especially on those long drives,” he said on Wednesday.

King added that these new seats with a unique shape helps provide continuous support from the pelvic to the chest, thus, reducing muscular and spinal loads and improved blood flow while reducing fatigue.

Nissan’s remote engine start system is another attractive feature on the Altima and ideal for any time of the year. The car, for example, can warm up at a push of a button in the current cold conditions.

The 2013 Altima is powered by a 2.5-liter dual overhead cam 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine. Not only does this sedan have more horsepower than that of the previous year model, but also gets an estimated 27 miles per gallon, city, and 38 mpg, highway. It’s accompanied by a continuously variable transmission and active understeer control.

The one at Tracy Nissan, 3195 N. Naglee Road, sported 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and safety features consisting of driver and front passenger side-impact and curtain air bags, lower anchor and tethers for children, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, traction control system, and tire-pressure monitoring.

Inside, the Altima – in terms of comfort and convenience – came the six-way power driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, 5-inch color monitoring system, USB connection port, Bluetooth hands-free phone system, rear view monitoring, power windows and lock, and a pair of 12-volt DC power outlets.

Among the extras were the moon roof with one-touch auto- up/down and auto reverse features,  auto-dimming inside mirror, fog lights, and manual folding outside mirrors with LED turn indicators.
