The newly redesigned Kia Sportage can be considered anything but cute.
The stylish exterior of this 2011 compact SUV has few curves while equipped with angular headlamps, chopped window shapes, and a flared lower grille, to name a few.
Car and Driver Magazine describes the new Sportage as “massively masculinized styling, inside and out.” It is available at Kia Country in Manteca, 1515 N. Main St.
The base price range is $18,990 to $25,590.
The one at Kia Country was listed with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine – capable of producing 176 hp and 168 lb-ft torque – six speed auto, AM/FM/MP3 audio, 17-inch alloy wheels, telescopic steering, and heated outside mirrors.
“The Kia’s four-cylinder is a few hp brawnier than both the Nissan Rogue’s 170-hp four and the Ford Escape’s base 171-hp four, yet it’s a few horses shy of the four-bangers found in the Toyota RAV4 (179) and Honda CR-V (180),” according to Car and Driver.
Sportage was introduced in the U.S.as a 1995 truck-based model
In 2004, the vehicle changed to a crossover formula or carlike construction, remaining so since then.
Sportage is Kia’s longest-running nameplate.
This year’s redesigned model, in terms of size, shape and brawn, is hoping to target the male consumer.
Just don’t call it cute.
