STOCKTON - Chris Brubeck opens the Stockton Symphony’s Classics season with a Mini-Brubeck Festival on Thursday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 13.

Brubeck’s world premiere, Adventure for Bass Trombone and Orchestra, features the 2012-13 Brubeck Institute Quintet; Brubeck will perform his Prague Concerto for Bass Trombone; and Stravinsky’s Petrushka, which was also a major compositional inspiration for Dave Brubeck, completes the program. Thursday’s concert at 8 p.m. and Saturday’s at 6 p.m. are held in the Warren Atherton Auditorium on the Delta College campus.

Brubeck continues to distinguish himself as an innovative performer and composer. During the 1970s he began touring with his dad, the legendary Dave Brubeck, and he currently maintains a demanding touring schedule with his two bands, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet and Triple Play. He fluidly “switches”—bass, trombone (which he’s been playing since 1960 and which was his major at the University of Michigan), piano, guitar, vocals—and his irrepressible on-stage enthusiasm is matched by his amazing command of jazz, blues, folk, funk, pop, and classical music styles. Tickets can be purchased online at www.StocktonSymphony.org, or by calling the Symphony office at (209) 951-0196. Tickets are from $22; children and students with an ID are half price.
