Tuesday’s heavy downpour is turning out to be just a one-day watery weather wonder, so it appears from the weather forecast in Northern California for the next 10 days.

But the heavy rain, which started Monday night, is unfortunately not putting any noticeable dent to the historic drought that continues to plague California. However, it was a welcome respite to many anxious residents and farmers.

At the Target shopping center in Manteca around the noon hour, brave shoppers did not even hesitate to walk through heavy sheets of rain from the parking lot into the store, and vice versa – so welcome was the rain.

There was no shortage of Facebook posts commenting on the rain. And Instagrams were awash with posted photographs showing hail all over the place.

“It was hailing!!!! Thunder and rain!!! Waiting for the other plagues!!!!” St. Anthony of Padua teacher Carolyn Cano shared on her Facebook page.

But there were also somber notes shared by Facebook users like Sunny Valley Smoked Meats owner and CEO Bill Andreetta.

“Saw 6 wrecks on way to airport. It’s raining. Slow down people,” was his cautionary message to all from the Sacramento International Airport where he was catching a plane to Kelowna, British Columbia.

It’s mostly sunny today and partly cloudy through the weekend, but no rain on the horizon for sometime, at least like the surprising small deluge that slightly appeased the major drought during Tuesday’s lunch hour.
