SACRAMENTO — The Sac-Joaquin Section Divisional Track and Field Championships were held Saturday at Hughes Stadium, and when the dust settled from the marathon event, Ripon High claimed its second consecutive boys Division V blue banner with 65 points, edging second-place Hughson with 63 ½ points.
The meet also served as the trials for the Masters Championships, which will be held on Saturday in Folsom with the first 10 finishers in most track events except the 800-, 1,600 and 3,200-meters advancing – 12 advance in the 800 and 24 in the 1,600 and 3,200. The top 12 advance in the field events.
Liam Wohle paced the Ripon boys with a first-place finish in the 400 meters (49.80 seconds), second place in the 200 (22.43) and was on the winning 4x100 relay (43.42) with Michael Evans, Andrew Shaw and Gain Duran and 4x400 relay (3:33.80) with Mateo Vera, Lucas Vera, Marco Arroyo. Wohle advanced to Masters with a ninth-place finish overall in the 400.
Jude Viss was fourth in the triple jump at 42 feet, 3 ¾ inches and was third in the high jump at 5-10. His high jump is currently tied for 11th with the official results pending.
“It’s great,” Indians coach Jorge Velasco said. “It was kind of unexpected. I guess I thought we had an outside chance.
“The team came through when it really counted. They really exceeded my expectations.”
The Sierra boys placed sixth in Division III with 40 points and was the highest-placing Valley Oak League school. Blama Kamara paced the Timberwolves with a first-place finish in the 400 (47.52), third in the 200 third (21.86) and along Kenny Roach, Blama Kamara and Anthony Glover was second in the 4x400 relay (3:21.34). Kamara qualified first for Masters in the 400, 10th in the 200 and the relay team qualified third.
Teagan Nazzisi was third in the shot put (51-1 ¾) and qualified fourth for Masters.
East Union placed and qualified three in the 100 with East Union with Jackson Fay 100 finishing second (10.59), J.P.Abrew third (10.67) and Gunnar Fay fourth (10.71). the Lancers trio qualified fourth-fifth-sixth for Masters.
Sean Rutter finished third in the pole vault (13-6) and qualified 10th for Masters.
Manteca’s William Brown was fourth in the 110 hurdles (14.84) and third in the 300 hurdles (39.93) qualifying ninth and sixth for the Masters, respectively.
The 4x100 relay team of Paul Martinez, Jayden Harris, Jaylin Harris and Brown finished fourth (43.61).
Lathrop was ninth in Division IV with Riley Gier winning the 800 (1:52.90) and qualifying first for Masters. In the discus Avner Faaaliga was fourth (129-0) and Logan Terry fifth (128-8)
The Lathrop girls finished second in Division IV and was the top Western Athletic Conference school with first place finishes by Morgan Emery in the 800 (2:20.14) and Moira Ramones in the triple jump (35-9 ½). Emery was third in the 1600 (5:14.97).
Alyvia Galano was third in the pole vault (10-6) and qualified for Masters, tied for eighth.
Clarisse Gomez and Erin Chunn both cleared 4-10 in the high jump with Gomez getting third and Chunn fourth and Kira Davis was fifth in the triple jump fifth (32-11 ¼)
4x100 relay of Melia Lewis, Chunn, Esmeralda Sanchez and Faith Butler finished third (51.22) as did the 4x400 relay Brianna Valencia, Emery, Zakia Booker and Lewis (4:13.13).
Ripon finished fourth in Division V with 51 points and were paced by Clara Schoolland with first-place finishes in the 100 hurdles (15.55) and high jump (5-4), fourth in the 100 (12.60) and along with Alexis Zamora, Kaiya Kroutil and Alana Martinez finished third in the 4x100 relay (50.08). Schooland tied for second overall in qualifying for the Masters.
Kroutil won the 400 (57.68) and was third in the 200, qualifying eighth in the 400.
Sierra was fourth in Division III, placing higher than any other VOL school. Tyleah Badea finished second in both the 800 (2:17.40) and 1600 (5:05.02) and qualified fifth and eighth for Masters, respectively. Mya Everett won the high jump (5-3) and qualified tied for third and was fourth in the triple jump fourth (34-8 ¾). The 4x100 relay of Khamylle Bollengier, Sofia Montes, Diana Reyes and Felisa Cruz-Olenhouse was third (49.75).
Manteca’s Raniya Nelson qualified for Masters in both the discus with a first-place effort of 129-7, qualifying third, and the shot put, finishing fifth (36-0) and qualifying ninth.
The 4x800 relays and 3,200 races were seeded as a result of their trial times, and those results were not available as of press time, but their points were included in the team totals.
