A brawl that broke out between adults at the annual Ripon High School Quarterback Club’s fund-raising golf tournament at 3 p.m. Friday brought police officers to the private Spring Creek Golf and Country Club where they found two men fighting amidst a large crowd gathered near a golf cart on the course.
First Sergeant Steve Merchant said a victim with severe head injuries was transported by ambulance to a hospital while a suspect, Dennis Lee Carey, 36, was arrested for felony assault.
Merchant said the Ripon Police Department responded to a number of alcohol related incidents in the 48 hours preceding noon Saturday.
The Quarterback Club Tournament was held on the second day of the Ripon Almond Blossom Festival that draws thousands to Ripon from outside the community.
