STOCKTON — Thursday was opening night for “Disney on Ice Presents Let’s Celebrate.”
Children of all ages had a chance to see their favorite characters from 16 Disney stories take the ice at the Stockton Arena.
Even if it meant staying up past their regular bed time.
“I like Disney on Ice,” said a young boy with blue lips likely caused from the cotton candy he was eating.
He came away awed by the skating spectacular consisting of stunts, a little bit of fireworks and some pyrotechnics.
Disney on Ice had something for everyone. For adults, it symbolized a part of their youth. Some proudly wore Mickey Mouse ears sold at the arena.
Youngsters enjoyed dressing for the occasion, wearing costumes from last Halloween based on their favorite characters from Toy Story, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, or Peter Pan.
Those characters came to life on the ice. Actually, they’re high-quality skaters, performing the same stunts and maneuvers as seen in the individual figure skating and pairs at the Olympic Winter Games or the World Championships.
The star of the show is Mickey Mouse, who performs his “Fantasia” wizardry consisting of an array of dancing brooms.
“It’ll sweep you off your feet,” Mickey said.
Even the Disney villains got into the act, performing a Halloween celebration number alongside the “Nightmare Before Christmas” characters.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse spanned the globe in numerous celebrations, ice-dancing in a luau in Hawaii, Carnival in Brazil, new years in China, and Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
The Disney characters - in this case, more than 50 of them - are inviting anyone and everyone to attend their celebration.
In their opening number, they perform, “Be Our Guest.”
