Two new traffic signals going up on South Main
Manteca logo

Two more intersections on South Main Street will have traffic signals, one set at Woodward Avenue and another set at Wawona Street.

Part of the poles are in place for the long awaited signals at Woodward and Main.

The city was able to get work altered on a major sewer line project breaking ground on Woodward between Main Street and Union Road so that the crossarms holding the actual signals at Woodward and Main will be placed and be operational within several months.

Originally, the sewer work was going to delay the signals from being operational for a year or so due to large cranes needed to place the sewer pipe would not clear the crossarms.

Work on the sewer line will now start at Main Street and head west.

The signals at Wawona and Main are part of the $92 million police station project being vetted Thursday at 6 p.m. by the Manteca Planning Commission.

The driveway entrance to the station will be aligned with the intersection.

The medians will need to be modified to accommodate left turns into the station.

The new signals will be synchronized with existing traffic signals to the south at Main Street and Industrial Park Drive/Mission Ridge Drive.

The sidewalk along the South Main Street frontage of the police station will be replaced due to safety issues.

There will also be a separate entrance to the police station site for police vehicles from Carnegie Court.

The 45,600 square-foot police station is being funded with a combination of growth fees and Measure Q sales tax receipts.

The station and support facilities will be using roughly a half of the 8 acre site.

The northern portion could be used for a new library or a community center.
