A multi-vehicle accident along the 120 Bypass Monday afternoon shut down a freeway and left at least one family mourning the loss of a loved one.
The accident included two tractor-trailer trucks, which had rolled on top of another car. The vehicle was crushed beneath the weight. The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in the eastbound lanes, just east of the Main Street exit.
Officials have reported at least one fatality.
Eastbound on-ramps at Union Road and Airport Way were closed and a Cal-Trans sign on Interstate 5 alerted drivers to a closure of 120 at Union Road.
The closure of the freeway pushed traffic onto Manteca’s surface streets, which turned in-town commuting into a slow crawl. Driving Yosemite Avenue, from Union Road to Fremont Street, took drivers approximately 20 minutes.
The Bulletin will have more details as the story develops.
