Holidays changes garbage collection

If your garbage is collected on Thursday and Friday normally in Manteca, it won’t happen for the next two weeks.

That’s because the City of Manteca Solid Waste Division is on a holiday schedule. It means there will be no garbage collection on either Christmas or New Year’s Day.

For those who usually have garbage collected on Thursday, it will take place on Friday. Those who have garbage collection on Friday normally will have it collected on Saturday instead.

The collection schedule returns to normal the week of Jan. 5.

The city will start its free Christmas tree curbside pick up starting on Monday, Dec. 29. It will last for three weeks ending on Jan. 16.

The trees will be taken to the municipal corporation yard, chipped and taken to Harvest Power to be made into compost.

All tree stands and ornaments must be removed.

Leaf collection will continue through mid-January. The city’s street sweepers will be collecting the leaves the day before regular street sweeping days, which occur every other week in residential areas. Residents can determine which day their area is swept by viewing the map at http://www.ci.manteca.ca.us/pwt/stdiv/streetswp.pdf.

All residents who wish to participate are requested to place leaves only in loose piles in the street. Leaves should be at least one foot out from the curb gutter. City crews ask that you please make sure that leaves do not clog the gutter and block the flow of rainwater. Leaves bagged in plastic will not be picked up.

Residents with smaller quantities of leaves are encouraged to place the leaves in their yard waste (green) Toter for collection.

All other garden trimmings such as grass clippings and tree prunings are not included in the leaf collection program. Place these items in the yard waste collection bin (green Toter) or compost them in your own backyard.

Anyone with questions should contact Facilities Maintenance Superintendent Dave Frank at 456.8476 or by using the “Contact Us” button on the top of the City’s home page (www.ci.manteca.ca.us) and selecting the “Other (Streets)” topic.
