A 39-year-old woman and her daughter’s 19-year-old boyfriend were arrested by Lathrop Police last week after a violent incident on Mingo Way resulted in injuries to an innocent elderly couple.
According to Lathrop Police, Crystal Nieland, 39, was intoxicated and involved in an argument with a male at her residence before she fled on foot with a handgun – firing multiple shots at a nearby car.
As she walked down Mingo Way with a handgun and fired multiple shots, her daughter’s 19-year-old boyfriend, Josiah Calhoun, accompanied her on her trip. When an altercation ensued with an elderly couple – a 68-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman – Calhoun physically assaulted them.
In the process of assaulting the couple, Calhoun reportedly knocked the 66-year-old woman to the ground, causing injuries to her wrist and her head before grabbing a pair of hedge clippers which he then pointed at a couple before threatening their lives.
Officers were dispatched the scene on July 21 just before 8 p.m.
Nieland was arrested on charges of burglary, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, willful discharge of a firearm in a negligent manner, and assault with force likely to commit great bodily injury – all felonies – and is being held in the San Joaquin County Jail on $55,000 bail. She is due to appear in the Manteca branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court today at 1:30 p.m. to answer to the charges.
Calhoun is being charged with several crimes related to elder abuse, assault, and making criminal threats, and was being held in the San Joaquin County Jail on $205,000 bail pending his appearance in Manteca court on Monday.
“Our officers are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community, and fortunately, no one was injured by gunfire in this incident,” the Lathrop Police wrote in a statement announcing the charges.
