Jeff Abrew is Sierra High’s new athletic director and vice principal.

“Coach Abrew brings an exceptional combination of leadership, integrity, and a student-centered vision to his new role as athletic director and vice principal,” noted Principal Steve Clark.

“His commitment to excellence, teamwork, and the overall growth of our students, both academically and athletically, will be a tremendous asset to our school community.”

“We are excited to have Jeff step into this position and are confident he will continue to elevate our athletic programs while fostering a positive, inclusive campus culture and carry on the legacy of great AD’s before him.”

Abrew brings more than 20 years of service at Sierra High School, where he has served as a teacher, coach, and campus leader.

He has been a Social Science teacher at Sierra since 2005, teaching a wide range of courses including World History, US. History, AVID, Psychology, AP Psychology, and AP European History.

Prior to joining Sierra, Abrew taught at the Weber Institute and served in a special assignment role at Webster Middle School, giving him a broad and well-rounded educational foundation.

In addition to his academic background, Abrew brings an extensive and successful coaching and athletic leadership résumé.

Over the past two decades, he has played a significant role in the development of Sierra High School’s athletic programs. Most recently, Abrew served as head varsity football coach from 2023 to 2025, following earlier roles as varsity offensive coordinator, junior varsity head coach, freshman head coach, and assistant coach dating back to 2005.

He has also coached baseball at the junior varsity and freshman levels and contributed to youth athletics through the Junior Timberwolves program.

“In his two decades of dedication to Sierra High School, Jeff has consistently demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to students,” Assistant Principal Anne Marie Shaw said. “He leads by example and builds strong rapport while holding student-athletes and coaches to the highest standards of character. He has been and will continue to be a tremendous asset to Sierra High.”

Vice Principal Les Wheeler, who worked alongside Abrew for many years as both a colleague and coach, also expressed strong support.

“I have had the pleasure of coaching with Jeff Abrew for over a decade, and we taught in the same department for over 20 years,” Wheeler said. “Throughout that time, I have been very impressed by Jeff as a coach, a teacher, a mentor, a co-worker, and a friend. Jeff's skill set will serve him and Sierra well as the next Athletic Director.”

“Sierra has a long history of very dynamic and capable ADs, and Jeff will be no different. We are very happy with this news and look forward to seeing what Jeff will accomplish in his new role.”

Abrew holds a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of La Verne, further preparing him for his expanded administrative responsibilities. As Athletic Director, he will oversee all interscholastic athletic programs, support coaches, and ensure compliance with CIF, SJS, VOL, and district and school guidelines. In his role as vice principal, he will assist with campus supervision, instructional priorities, and student services.

Abrew is the seventh athletic director in the school’s history joining Vern Gebhardt, Greg Leland, Anthony Chapman, Andrew Lee, Ezequiel Ruiz, and Robert Posehn
