The drive east on both Louise Avenue and Lathrop Road from I-5 is going to look a whole lot different in the near future.

Last week the Lathrop City Council voted to approve a contract with Jam Services Inc. for $273,840 that will fund 12 single decorative streetlight and 24 twin decorative streetlights that will be installed along the major thoroughfares as part of a landscape overhaul intended to beautify the area and make it more attractive for development.

Of the three bids that the city received after a submitting a request for proposal, Jam Services delivered the lowest qualified bid by $17,880.

“A component of the Louise Avenue and Lathrop Road Landscape Improvements Project is to improve the street lighting on Louise Avenue, which will help improve the roadway appearance, enhance quality of life for residents, and attract new business to undeveloped properties in the area,” city staff wrote in the report that was prepared for the council in advance of last week’s meeting.

With the council’s authorization, city staff is now able to get a jump start on the nearly four-month lead-time required for delivery of the streetlights.

The city will be paying $5,010 each for the dozen single decorative lights being purchased for a total price of $60,120, and $8,905 for each of the two-dozen twin decorative streetlights for a total of $213,720. The cost of taxes and shipping for the lights may be on top of the total cost of purchase.

The cost for the purchase of the lights was approved as part of a capital improvement project that was included in the 2022/23 budget.
