The nomination period for the Lathrop mayoral race has been extended to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the City of Lathrop website (www.ci.lathrop.ca.us), the reason for that was the incumbent – in this case, Sonny Dhaliwal, who is seeking the District 3 seat on the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisor and is in a runoff with ex-Manteca Mayor and former Manteca City Councilman Steve Debrun in the Nov. 5 election – did not file.
The Candidate Log for Mayor, as of Monday, consisted of Mansoor Fazel, Paul Camarena, Diana Radonic, Paul Akinjo, and Dominic Arriola. Venkat Vempati was among the qualified candidates but withdrew from the race on Friday. John Thanh Do also withdrew last week.
Meanwhile, the nomination period for Lathrop City Council race (a two-year term) officially closed on Friday.
The two incumbents, Minnie “Cotton” Diallo and Jennifer Torres-O’Callahan are both seeking re-election on their four-year terms.
They’ll be challenged by former Councilman Stephen Dresser, who served three terms as a elected official and two on the Planning Commission.
