For more than year nearly all of Lathrop’s indoor public facilities have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But starting today, those facilities – including the Lathrop Senior Center, Lathrop Generations Center, and Lathrop Community Center – will reopen to the public.
The Lathrop Senior Center will now be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Lathrop Community Center across the parking lot will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Lathrop Generations Center – across the street from Lathrop High School – will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and for Saturday programs from 12 to 3 p.m.
The Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library branch inside of the Lathrop Generations Center will be open Monday through Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m.
Lathrop City Hall – which has been closed to the public throughout the pandemic and has moved much of the city business conducted there online – will reopen on Tuesday, July 6 and will remain open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The majority of the facilities reopening to the public today will be doing so on a significant day in Lathrop’s history – the same that the city formally incorporated back in 1989. While the day is typically one where the city holds a massive gathering at a local community park complete with fireworks, the decision not to move forward with that because of pandemic restrictions was made this year – marking the second year in a row that the Lathrop birthday celebration will not be held.
According to the city, that decision was made because they were unsure that they would be able to keep the number of attendees below the threshold necessary to hold events without contact tracing capabilities – something that overwhelm the city’s relatively small staff.
The public will also now be able to attend Lathrop City Council meetings in person at Lathrop City Hall, although those that are not fully vaccinated are asked to wear a mask they are indoors.
