Music on Maple debuts tonight; free movie at Woodward Park Friday

Get ready to groove on Maple Avenue in downtown Manteca.

The Manteca Recreation & Community Services Department is rolling out a new event — Music on Maple.

It will take place every other Thursday between 6 and 9 p.m. starting tonight in the 100 block of Maple Avenue.

Music on Maple events are free and family-friendly.

 The event includes live music, a beer and wine garden, food trucks, games and other activities.

Bring a lawn chair to ensure available seating.

Tonight’s Music on Maple Retro Night offers the Penetrators Grove Band featuring ‘60s, ‘70s and R&B. The evening will also feature contests and prizes.

The band Fired Up playing classic rock is set for Sept. 29. The evening will have an Oktoberfest theme. There will be craft beers, games and contests.

Fired Up returns Oct. 13 for the “Let’s Rock “ evening. It includes an air guitar contest. People are encouraged to wear their favorite band T-shirt. There will be a raffle and prizes.

The Oct. 27 event is Barks & Brews featuring the band Whiskey Kiss.

There is a dog contest planned along with vendors, pup cups, treats and a photo booth. Dogs need to be on a leash.

Free movie in the park

The next Manteca Recreation & Community Services Department Movies in the Park is set for Friday, Sept. 16, at Woodward Park.

The movie for the free family friendly event that is being shown — Sing 2 — will start at sunset around 8 p.m. Activities will start at 7 p.m.

Light refreshments will be available for purchase.

Bring your blankets or low lawn chairs and enjoy a movie under the stars.

Farmer’s market Saturday

 Every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through the end of October the 100 block of Maple Avenue in downtown Manteca is turned into a certified farmers’ market that features other vendors as well.

There will not be a farmers market the first weekend in October due to the Sunrise Kiwanis Manteca Pumpkin Fair.
