Forty-seven teams -- specifically, 21 high school and 26 middle school teams -- will take part in a series of rigorous competitions, following a format of board games, TV shows, and athletic games, according to the San Joaquin County Office of Education.

These events cover a range of scientific disciplines, including Ornithology --otherwise known as the study of birds -- Protein Modeling, Circuit Lab, Crime Busters, Food Science, Water Quality, and Gravity Vehicle, to name a few.

Middle school students will compete in the B Division while high schoolers will take part in the C Division.

SJCOE indicated that only certain events and the awards ceremony will be open to the public.

The four teams in B Division and C Division will advance to the NorCal State Finals in Turlock on April 18.

SJCOE will pay the final fees for these teams via the SJCOE Educational Foundation.
