Manteca celebrities will put their dancing shoes on to perform at the “Manteca Dancing with The Stars,” a spectacular dance event that will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and celebrates the first anniversary of The Commons at Union Ranch Assisted Living Community in Manteca.
The event takes place Tuesday, June 23, from 4 to 7 p.m.
“Its fun and its good exercise,” said Charlie Halford, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Manteca-Lathrop.
Halford started his dance lessons with an instructor in May.
“We’ll be performing a jazz number.” Halford also said he’s participating because the event will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. “I encourage others to become involved in activities that benefit non-profit organizations.”
Among the celebrities participating are Manteca Councilman Steve DeBrum, Premiera Care CEO Don Petersen, firefighter Sterrie McCloud, Manteca Ambulance’s Jeff Jones, and the new CEO of The Commons George Bewick. All have been taking dances lessons courtesy of Dance and Cheers Stars, a local dance studio owned by Harmony Flores.
Dance partners selected a variety of dances to perform, including disco, jazz, salsa, tap, and funky jazz. There’s even a “character dance” that’s a surprise. Judging the dancers will be the Alzheimer’s Association’s director Mary Gillon, Doctors Hospital administrator Mark Lisa, and The Commons resident Bud Lawlor. Dodie Miller from Del Webb will be the score keeper.
The event includes appetizers, live jazz music and a silent auction to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The Commons at Union Ranch is located at 2241 N. Union Road. The first dancers take the floor at 4:20 p.m. with the remaining dancers beginning at 5 p.m. The winner of the dance competition will be announced about 6 p.m.
The public is invited and a reservation is requested. To make a reservation or for more details call The Commons at (209) 463-9100.
The Commons at Union Ranch is one of four assisted living communities owned and operated by Premiera Care, an Oakdale based company. Other communities are in Antioch, Modesto and Stockton. The fifth community is scheduled to open in Elk Grove in August.
