A sinkhole started developing on southbound Highway 99 at Austin Road at about 9:30 Monday night prompting numerous calls to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers reported the drop in the pavement was about four inches deep, 15 feet long and two feet wide. The pavement apparently hadn’t damaged vehicles driving over the indentation in the roadway, an officer reported.

The Department of Transportation was contacted to assess and address the hazard. It was unclear whether it would cause a problem for the morning commute.
