GIRL, 7, STRUCK, KILLED AT SOUTHERN CALIF CAR SHOW: SANTA FE SPRINGS  (AP) — Authorities say a 7-year-old girl was struck and killed by a vehicle at a Southern California car show over the weekend.

The Whittier Police Department says a vehicle was exiting a building when the driver lost control and hit the girl Sunday evening in Santa Fe Springs.

The girl, who was not identified, was killed instantly. Police say the investigation is ongoing.

KABC-TV reports the show was inside the warehouse of Kool Aid Hydraulics, a firm that outfits cars with custom aftermarket parts and accessories.

The station says hundreds of people regularly attend monthly car shows at the warehouse.

CLEARLAKE. OFFICER PINNED, INJURED DURING TRAFFIC STOP: CLEARLAKE  (AP) — A Northern California police officer is recovering from serious injuries he suffered when a suspect pinned him against another vehicle following a traffic stop.

Clearlake police Det. Sgt. Nick Bennett says the officer suffered several broken ribs, a head laceration and some spinal injuries in the incident on Sunday, but could be out of the hospital within the next day or two.

The unidentified officer and his partner pulled a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe over around 4:30 a.m. Sunday for an alleged minor traffic violation.

Bennett says the suspect, 53-year-old Daniel York, put the truck in reverse and pinned the officer against another truck.

York was arrested a short time later. Bennett says York is a parolee and said he did not want to go back to jail.

LEMOORE NAVY CAPTAIN LOSES COMMAND POST : LEMOORE (AP) — A Navy captain has lost his command of an air wing assigned to the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson because of an alleged relationship with a woman who worked for him.

U-T San Diego reports (http://bit.ly/1eBZAIZ) Monday that the Navy relieved Capt. Jeffrey Winter of his post Friday, citing an investigation that found an alleged inappropriate relationship with a junior female officer in his chain of command.

Winter had been commanding officer of Carrier Air Wing 17, based in Lemoore in California's Central Valley. He had only been in that position since June.

The air wing's deputy commander, Capt. Matthew Leahey, has taken the helm temporarily.

Winter has been reassigned to the Naval Air Forces command at North Island Naval Air Station.
