MODESTO — Hugo (Gato) Valdez and Andrea Monti, organizers of the U.S. division of the tango world cup held in Buenos Aires every August, will return to Modesto to conduct workshops and perform at an Argentine tango party (milonga).
The Saturday, Oct. 29, event at Jacobs Fine Dining, 2501 McHenry Ave., will begin with a 2:30 p.m. class for all levels and a 4 p.m. intermediate class. A 7:30 p.m. introductory lesson will precede the milonga at 8:30.
Gato and Andrea will perform at 10:30. Prices for the workshops are $25 for one, $45 for both; admission to the milonga is $5, $10 with lesson.
The Buenos Aires natives performed and taught in Argentina, Europe and Asia. They were judges at the 2010 Argentine tango world cup and established the official U.S. branch of that competition at a San Francisco festival. The winners of that division finished third in Buenos Aires last August. Gato and Andrea are currently planning the 2012 festival and competition.
