A vacant building suffered $35,500 in losses during an early morning fire on Saturday at Moffat Boulevard and Garfield Avenue south of Manteca High.
The first engine was dispatched at 3:54 a.m. Upon the engine company’s arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Firefighters were also told by nearby neighbors there was a possibility that someone was trapped inside.
Fire crews from three engine companies took 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control and another 30 minutes to put it out. The majority of the damage was contained to a storage area and vacant radiator shop on the east side of the property.
An aggressive fire attack prevented the fire from being spread to the west side of the structure.
A search for possible victims found no one.
The fire scene required two hours of salvage, overhaul, and investigation.
