Funeral services for Annetta Marie Burden and James Carl Burden were held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory conducted by Reverend Dan Patman.

Daughter of the late Elmer Mathew Luis and Esther Souza Luis, Annetta was born on July 9, 1951 in Fort Ord, California; she passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 in an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 12 days.

James was born September 8, 1952 in Glendale, Arizona to the late James Carl Burden, Sr. and Blanche Rutledge Burden; he passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 in Ardmore at the age of 58 years, 4 months and 15 days.

They married July 26, 1969 in Manteca, California and moved to Ardmore in 1981 from California.  Members of the First United Methodist Church, Annetta was a dedicated worker and was employed for over 29 years at Mercy Memorial Health Center, where she was a Food and Nutrition Supervisor.  James had worked with BJ Hughes and then with the City of Ardmore, Water Department, for 20 years.

Together for over 41 years, Annetta enjoyed being known as the family historian and keeper of all the family photos and keepsakes.  She enjoyed working in their garden and yard.  James’ interests were camping, fishing and reading his Bible.  But most of all they enjoyed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren; especially cheering for them at their high school football games.  Together they toiled, together they rest.

They are survived by their four daughters, Michelle Robinson and her husband Jerame, Stacy Evans and her husband Kenneth, Jamie Beard and her husband Keith and Krisanna Burden, all of Ardmore; grandchildren, Seth Robbins, James “J.J.” Robbins, Heather Barnard, Colton Robinson, Forrest Gillespie, Christian Gillespie, Taylor Evans, Parker Beard, Nathan Raney and four great-grandchildren.  Also Annetta’s sisters, Mary Wells of San Jose, California, and Christine Luis-Schultz of Heath, Massachusetts, and a brother, Mathew Luis of Pahrump, Nevada; sister-in-law: Michelle Luis of Ripon, CA; and Jame’s sisters, Betty, Wanda, Linda and Melody; and step-father, Clyde Long of Enos, Oklahoma; special aunt, Vina.  They were preceded in death by their parents; by Annetta’s brother, John Luis and James’s niece, Nina.
