After a short battle with cancer, Ed King passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital in Modesto with his wife Linda, daughter Dana and grandson Justin by his side.
   Ed was born in Centerville to Alice Duarte and Edward Lemos King. As a young boy he had a talent for sports, hunting, and mechanics, traits that were to carry throughout his life.
   Ed attended Stanford University, but graduated from San Jose State University in 1957 with degrees in Physical Education and Industrial Technology and Science. He earned his Masters Degree in Secondary Administration from SJSU in 1975. He held lifetime credentials in Administration and Supervision, and General Secondary. Professional affiliations included the American Vocational Association (AVA), the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), and the California Association of Regional Occupational Centers/ Programs (CAROC/P).
   Ed began his teaching career in Fremont in September 1957 as a Physical Education Instructor, Football and Baseball Coach, and Auto Mechanic Instructor at Washington High School.
In 1961, he moved to Irvington High School as the Director of Athletics where he coached championship football and baseball teams. Ed transferred to American High School in 1971 as Assistant Principal where he developed programs to help all students succeed in high school. 1979 saw a move to the Regional Occupation Program office, where he helped create and became the Superintendent of the Mission Valley Regional Occupation Center/Program, providing career and technical training programs to over 3800 high school students and 2400 adults.
   After retiring from this long and successful career, Ed moved to Sacramento in 1997 and became the Assistant Director of the High School Division at the California Department of Education. He finished his education career by providing education consulting expertise to the Sacramento County Office of Education, the Stanislaus County Office of Education, and the San Joaquin County Office of Education.
   Ed finally retired to his home in the country with Linda and their dogs. He enjoyed pursuing his many hobbies, traveling in their RV, and spending time with friends and family. Husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, hunter, fisherman, home builder, pilot, sailor, skier, mechanic, hot rodder, truck driver, teacher, coach, mentor, intense sports fan, dancer, music lover, traveler, lover of fine wines and fine food, lifelong learner, friend to many, and a true gentleman. Ed had a passion for life.
   In addition to his wife, Ed leaves behind daughters Debbie Hill (Peter), and Dana Gigli (Joe), stepdaughter Katharine Smith (Jeremy Meier), grandchildren Justin Hill (Ashley), Kristi Hill, Matt Gigli (Danielle), and Steven Gigli, great grandchildren Hollis Edward Hill and Vaughn Michael Hill, sister Bonnie Amaral (Butch) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Beth Enos.
   The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and nursing staff at Memorial Hospital who helped make Ed’s final weeks more comfortable. Additionally, we appreciate the many friends that came to visit him while he was in the hospital.
