Gerold Frank Branscum, 79, passed away during the evening of Dec. 23, 2010, at the Manteca Care and Rehabilitation Center in Manteca, California.

He was born in Norwood, Ohio, on Nov. 16, 1931 to LeRoy Branscum and Lela Branscum (Corander), both of Burnside, Kentucky.

He moved to California from Ohio in the late 1950s, and was a resident of Manteca for nearly 20 years. He loved playing the guitar, and entertained friends and family on many an occasion. He also enjoyed gardening, taking trips to the mountains, and looking at stars in the backyard. He was a big fan of Elvis, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe and anything that had to do with the Old West. He had a lifelong passion for baseball, having played a lot in his younger years, and later he always had time to play ball with all the kids in the family. As anyone who knew him well would say, there was no greater fan of the St. Louis Cardinals than Gerold Branscum.

Gerold is survived by his three children, Gerold Branscum, Lisa Branscum and John Branscum, as well as his brother Harold Branscum, sisters June Wilkinson and Diann Pondela, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Kathleen Fischer, Charlene Poynter, Betty Brock, Bill Branscum, James Leroy Branscum, Dean Branscum, Patricia Branscum, Don Branscum, Charles Branscum and Gail Branscum.

Services for Gerold will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Park View Memorial Chapel, 3661 E. French Camp Road, Manteca, 95336. If you wish to honor Gerold’s memory, please take a moment to help a friend or family member in need, as Gerold was especially known for doing this for those he loved.
