Roberta M. Hallbourg died peacefully in her home on January 7, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends.  She was 91years old. Berta was born on October 2, 1925 in Newport, Rhode Island to Bernard J. Harvey and Mabel King Minkler, one of six children. She grew up in Newport, and in 1942 met Gus Hallbourg, the brother of her best friend Shirley, while he was home on leave.  They married on January 5, 1946 and moved to Spokane, WA so he could resume his baseball career.  They moved to Stockton in 1947, started their family, and eventually settled in Manteca in 1958.  They were blessed with four children and were married for 61 years.
   Berta worked in a torpedo factory during WWII in Newport.  She later worked at New Haven school in Manteca as a teacher’s aide, and then drove a school bus for the disabled. Berta was a wonderful cook and loved cooking and baking her family’s favorite dishes.  Berta and Gus spent many years together on the golf course, both at Manteca golf course and Spring Creek in Ripon making many lasting friendships along the way.  Another favorite pastime for Berta was shopping and searching for bargains at Dillards, TJ Maxx and Grocery Outlet.
   Berta is survived by her siblings, Vernon Harvey of Newport, Rhode Island and Marge McDonald of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  She is also survived by her children, Marsha Beever (Dan) of Atwater, Robert Hallbourg (Flora) of Manteca, Peter Hallbourg of Manteca, Mark Hallbourg (Barbara) of Auburn; grandchildren, Dan (Crystal) Beever, Laura (Lou) Meza, Tony (Jessica Hallbourg, Melissa (Chad) Edwards, Kendall Hallbourg, Dawna (Pierre) Grand, Chrissy (James) Harris, Jessica Holscher, Keven Chase, Katie Chase, and Jessica Chase. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
   She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard J. Harvey and Mabel King Minkler, her siblings, Jim, Norman and her twin brother Robert Harvey.  Her beloved husband Darwin (Gus) Hallbourg died in 2007.
   A celebration of her life will be January 22, 2017 at Chez Shari, in Manteca, at
2:00 p.m. In loving memory, please send donations to Hospice of San Joaquin.
