A golden heart stopped beating on Monday, September 30, 2019. Ruby Jeanette Shipman Stappenback was born to her father, Willard S. Shipman and her mother, Pearl E. Rosencrans, on September 15, 1930 in Minot, North Dakota. Through her life, she was a loved member of her family and the Manteca community.
Ruby moved to Manteca with her parents when she was seven years old and attended local schools, graduating from Manteca High in 1948. She was active and engaged in community events and social programs of all sorts. This continued after having children of her own as she was a long-standing member of the PTA, in addition to, contributing 43 years of service to the Election Board. She wed, becoming Ruby J. Matheson, and had three beautiful children, Bobby, Deborah and Kathy Matheson. Sadly, all three children preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her father Willard, her mother Pearl, sisters Ruth Rehak and Vera Wells, brother Jack Erdman and nephew Byrl Knutsen. Ruby was next known as Ruby J. Baldwin and had a child from that marriage, Jim Lucky Baldwin.
She was an extraordinarily caring grandmother for her four grandsons, Ryan, Kevin, Jacob and Matthew.
Rudy and her husband of 35 years, Carl Stappenback, were active members of the V.F.W. Post 6311 of Manteca for 20 years and conducted the Veterans Programs for Memorial Day at East Union Cemetery and Veterans Day Program at Library Park for approximately 8 years. City of Manteca officials recognized Carl and Ruby for their many hours of community work and honored them with a Fourth of July Parade Marshal Designation. Ruby and Carl spent their leisurely time traveling the United States, bowling, camping with friends and enjoying life with one another.
A kinder heart you will never find! To know this fantastic lady was to love her. With sad hearts, we say goodbye  to an angel, the beautiful Ruby Stappenbeck.
