Vicente “Ben” Cruz, 70, entered into rest on July 1, 2014, in Yosemite, Ca. He was born on Dec. 3, 1943, in Guam. He joins his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel and Isabel Cruz, in heaven as well as his two siblings, Maria and Manuel Cruz.
Ben or “Benny” is survived by his wife of 47 years Linda Cruz. His children are Tina Estrada (husband Tony) and David Cruz. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Justin, Briana and Mia. In addition, Ben has four surviving siblings: Jess Cruz, David Cruz, Joe Cruz, and Maggie Phillips.
Ben was a resident of Manteca for the past 10 years and previously of Union City for over 23 years. He retired from Owens Brockway, working in both Oakland and Tracy for 39 years. Ben was an easy going, loving and giving man. He was humble, kind and always ready to laugh and feed you. Ben loved to fish, cook and try his luck at the races. His joy was the simple things in life like playing poker with his grandchildren, and California Scratch-offs, hoping to hit the “big one.” Ben was the most happy when spending time with his grandchildren; he was their biggest fan and supporter especially when attending their sporting events and performances. He enjoyed taking daytrips with his wife, fishing with his son David and also the companionship of his Yorkie dog “Cody;” he treated him like he was a member of the family. Ben was a funny, humble, happy person who had a very special bond with his children and family. He will be remembered as a loving, devoted husband, an amazing dad and a wonderful grandpa. He will be deeply missed but always remembered.
