Remember the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, a wine competition where all the local California wines won over French wine and nobody could believe it? Well, you can re-live the infamous day yourself at the Thursday Wine Smackdown at Peirano Estate Vineyards (21831 Highway 99, Acampo) on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. The “smackdown” is a head-to-head challenge where you will decide the ultimate victor and the best wine of the night. Each round will feature two wines of the same variety, but one will be from Lodi’s Finest and one from a European region. Each wine will be paired with an appetizer that will help bring out the characteristics of the wines. The first “match” of the series features Spanish wine paired with Spanish food. Ole!
