Why was it so easy for a pot clinic to open?

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
Why was it so easy for a “pot house” to open in Manteca? The city council last year refused to consider adopting an ordinance making it legal to set up a medical dispensary in Manteca. The city attorney says “we’re seeking to abate it as a nuisance and to dispense a controlled substance is a violation of federal law.”

The owner of the dispensary claims it is a pharmacy. He did not have required state licensing or a pharmacist on staff. Hello! What is missing here? It is a business and dispensary that is illegal under city, county, and federal status placing young people (and not so young) in greater jeopardy.

It has not been too long ago it took a man over three months to get a permit to sell hot dogs. There was another man who wanted to build a new hand car wash on Yosemite Avenue that would have given jobs to some of our young people. But he was not granted a permit. Go figure that one.

Noted on the February 22, 2010, City of Manteca Warrant Register: Steven Pinkerton $2,525.24 “Employee Computer Loan.” Is this open to anyone?
