Two men were assaulted in separate incidents in the wee hours of Sunday in Lathrop with one dying from multiple stab wounds and the other surviving gun shots.

Lathrop Police Services responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. deputies to the 200 block of J Street with reports of a male shooting victim.  Deputy Dave Konecny said the man was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive his wounds that he said were not life threatening.

At 3:07 a.m. deputies responded to a call of another man down in the 15000 block of Fifth Street. They found a Hispanic man suffering from multiple stab wounds.  Konecny said he succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide detectives are currently investigating the case, however no further details are available, deputies said.

In an unrelated incident San Joaquin County deputies recovered a John Deere skid steer tractor that had been stolen from the area of Woodward and Union Roads before the turn of the New Year.  It was located near Alice and Sedan roads in an orchard. The tractor was returned to its owners by the Sheriff’s Department.  Anyone with information on the theft is asked to contact deputies at 209.468.4400 and refer to case 16-34849.
