A suspected gang shooting shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day left two men injured and one dead at the Southland Mobile Home Park on the Highway 99 Frontage Road south of Lathrop Road.

A 32-year-old Manteca resident died following the shooting. The Manteca Police Dispatch Center received two calls. The first reported the shooting and men being hit by the gunfire and the second came from the hospital saying they had received two shooting victims — a third gunshot victim was dropped off at emergency as officers arrived at the hospital.

All three men were transported by private vehicles after they were hit by the gunfire. A variety of bullet casings were found at the scene indicating that multiple shooters had been involved. One of the gunshot victims died at the hospital after suffering multiple shots to his torso.

The other two men from Manteca, 27, and from Escalon, 32, were treated for their non-life-threatening injuries and later released, according to Sgt. Stephen Schluer.

The detective unit was called to the scene and the investigation is ongoing. Responding officer found no suspects when they arrived at the mobile home park.
