Things did not work out well for the visiting East Union Lancers sophomore football team, as Modesto High handled them thoroughly in a 41-7 loss on Friday.
The Lancers were able to avoid the shutout with an early fourth quarter score, getting an 85-yard touchdown reception from Dylan Tilden from quarterback Taariq Davis.
Modesto had the game in hand with only 213 yards of total offense, barely edging out EU’s162 yard total.
The Lancers will try and right the ship Friday when they open Valley Oak League action by hosting Lathrop High Friday.
Freshman
East Union 49, Downey 19
The East Union freshman football team was the lone Lancer squad in the program to record a victory, trouncing Downey High by 30 points.
East Union put things out of reach with a 21 point third quarter, expanding on a 22-13 lead with three third quarter touchdowns and a defensive shutout. East Union would amass 352 yards of total offense, led by Alex Martel’s 88 yards and two scores. Teammate Marcus Panelo finished with 83 yards and three scores, while quarterback Austin Miller was 6-for-10 passing for 160 yards and four scores.
The two teams matched touchdowns on their first possessions, but Downey proved incapable of keeping up with the Lancer offense.
East Union opens VOL play Thursday against the Lathrop Spartans.
