Weston Ranchs playoff hopes dim with loss to Jags

Eddie Melero at least slowed the train that was Kimball running back Evan Owens when he scooped up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown in the second quarter.

But that would be the extent of the Cougars’ scoring.

Marred by turnovers that their opponent had no problem capitalizing on, Weston Ranch was downed 55-7 in a Valley Oak League contest against Kimball of Tracy.

The loss drastically narrows the window of opportunity for the Cougars (4-5, 2-4 VOL) to make the Sac-Joaquin section playoffs – especially with one-loss Sierra High as its next opponent.

Weston Ranch turned the ball over four times during the contest, and Kimball scored touchdowns on each of the ensuing possessions – posting double-digit points in all but the fourth quarter.

The Jaguars (4-5, 3-3 VOL) also returned a punt for a touchdown.

Kashon Andrews led the Cougars in rushing with 41 yards on five carries while Joe Gonzalez chipped in with 37 yards on just as many attempts. Traeshon Gully finished with 36 yards on 12 rushes.
