Four East Union seniors came through with clutch plays on Senior Night Wednesday at Northgate Softball Complex, where the Lancers squeaked out a 7-6 extra-inning victory over Weston Ranch.

East Union (8-4 VOL, 17-6-1 overall) blew a 6-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning, as Weston Ranch (4-9, 13-12) took advantage of walks and an error. In the top half of the eighth, the Ranch threatened with the bases loaded and two out, and EU second baseman Jillian Costa kept it tied with a big catch in the shallow outfield.

Laura Gann led off the home half of the eighth with a first-pitch hit and was bunted to second by Gianna Gesler. Later, Marissa Romero smacked a deep sacrifice fly to center field, which plated Gann for the winning run.

Gann had three base hits to lead EU. Freshmen Samantha Owen and Alejandra Rascon each belted two. Owen also had a bases-clearing double in the second inning. Elysia Hernandez sparked Weston Ranch with a first-inning home run.

Ripon Christian 5, Mariposa 4

The Knights (4-8, 5-11 overall) pulled off a big upset on Senior Day, knocking off playoff hopeful Mariposa (9-5, 17-9).

Brianna De Jong was among the seventh-inning heroes for Ripon Christian. She was behind in the count 0-2 with the bases loaded and RC trailing 4-3. De Jong belted a line-drive single up the middle to drive in Courtney Perrillat, and on the same play Rachael Carvalho plated the game-winning run after the throw home sailed beyond the catcher’s reach.

Senior Jenny Wickham started late rally by reaching on an error. Shelby Vrieling pitched a complete game for the win. Ripon Christian avenged a 12-2 loss to Mariposa.
