STOCKTON — Monday marked the end of a successful era for Ripon High’s girls golf team, as seniors Laura Williams and Alex Gonzales played their final matches for the Indians in the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament held at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
Williams finished 9-over-par 81, while Simpson College signee Gonzales turned in a 91. Neither qualified for next week’s CIF Northern California Regional Championships at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch in Salinas, but they have plenty of reasons to be proud.
They led Ripon to back-to-back Valley Foothill League North Division championships — the first two in program history. Williams and Gonzales advanced to Masters by winning a playoff hole in the SJS Division V Tournament.
“Laura played a solid round,” Ripon coach Eric Dambrosio said. She started out a little slow but finished strong. Alex struggled on a few holes but birdied the last hole.
“Both girls didn’t play their best today, but they tried their best and I am proud of them. They put a ton of time and effort into their games. It was a great season.”
Moving onto NorCals are the top three team finishers and four individuals. Hailey Reitz was low medalist with a 69, and she led Granite Bay (387) to the Masters team title. Oak Ridge (393) and St. Francis (421) took second and third, respectively. Valley Oak League champion placed fifth with a 453.
Individual NorCal qualifiers are Davis’ Marie Dean (70), Vista del Lago’s Noor Ahmed (72), Christian Brothers’ Beah Cruz (73) and Benicia’s Sophia Young (74).
