The Ripon Indians opened the contest with a blistering start and never lost track, blasting Orestimba High 88-57 to close out the Trans Valley League boys basketball season Friday.

The Indians got going in the first quarter, outscoring Orestimba 30-7. The Indians were up by as many as 44 points at one point in the first half, cruising behind 15 first-half points from Cole Herrin.

“We weren’t even trying to score that many points,” Ripon head coach Rod Wright said. “We were just on fire.”

All but one of the Indians tallied points in the blowout, as the squad connected on a season-high nine 3-pointers for the win.

Herrin led all scorers 19, while teammate Jared Ratto finished with a dozen, hitting three 3-pointers.

Josh McCreath, Andy Bunting and Andrew Bonner all scored eight points for Ripon.

Ripon is currently resting in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV power ratings’ No. 6 spot, and likely could slip a spot or two after falling to Riverbank Tuesday in TVL play.

Isaac Norman showed up with the hot hand, leading Ripon Christian with 19 points.

Norman did all of his damage in the game’s first three quarters, connecting on five 3-pointers in the win. Teammate Logan Vos was the only other Knight to finish in double-figures with 10.

The Knights raced out to a 37-19 halftime lead, putting the contest out of reach within the first 15 minutes. Ripon Christian (14-0) finished its first jaunt through the SL without a blemish, and should have no problem holding on to its No. 1 seeding in the SJS Division-V power ratings when the final brackets will be announced Sunday.
