Manteca leans on third tandem to edge Kimball

Kimball’s Reese Maxfield was low medalist with a 5-over 42 at Manteca Park Golf Course Tuesday, but Manteca overcame the Jaguars 239-242 thanks to the play of their No. 5 and 6 golfers Tuesday.

Davey Tolbert came up big with a 47, and Gus LaDue carded a 50. The Buffaloes’ throw-out score of 54 came from their top player.

Ray Tinnin led Manteca (3-7 Valley Oak League, 5-9 overall) with a 44, Justin Morrish followed with a 46 and Brandon Ramirez a 47.

“I always have stressed the importance of the play of the 5 and 6 positions, and today was the day,” Manteca coach Dave Fontanilla said. “Davey and Gus really saved us with two solid rounds in very difficult conditions.”

Weston Ranch DQ

The Lancers produced some good scores at Van Buskirk Golf Course in Stockton Tuesday. Medalist Will Brink finished 1-over 37 and was followed by Jordan Lund’s 39, Zachary Couch’s 40, Nick Roundsville’s 41. Eric Davis and Kyle Davis each shot a 45.

Weston Ranch did not have enough players to field a full squad. Manny Catario paced the Cougars with a 44, and Daron Carrillo posted a 49. Bruce Chester-Bradt turned in a 53, and Javier Gomez a 60.



Oakdale 221, Sierra 254

Ian Stogdell shot a 1-over 37 to earn medalist honors for host Oakdale at Oakdale Golf  & Country Club.

Blake Settlemoir led the Timberwolves with 45 followed by Essley Green (48), Chris Schmitz (50),  Matt Rose (54), Joey Guinta (57) and Alex Orr (58).

Ripon’s Nick Sharpe added some distance between himself and MC standout Kyle Intorf in the race for league MVP honors. Sharpe penciled in the winning score of 33 on Jack Tone Golf Course’s par-31 front nine, while Intorf finished tied for second with a 35.

Robby Figeroid contributed a 35 for Ripon. Kyle Head (36), Jack Brielry (37) and Nathan Suender (38) were not far behind.
