After going down 1-2-3 in the first inning, the Phillies erupted for 11 hits over the next three and defeated the Giants 15-3 in four innings via the mercy rule to win the Ripon Little League Majors championship at Thiemann Athletic Park.
The Phillies will open the District 67 Tournament of Champions on Saturday, June 18 against Mountain House at Northgate Little League.
The big inning for the Phillies was an eight-run second that sent 12 batters to the plate behind three hits and five walks. The big hit of the frame was a bases-clearing triple by Alex Girardi (2 for 4, three RBI, two runs, triple) that scored Jaxson Herrick (2 for 2, three RBI, two runs, double), Trentan Cloward (2 for 2, RBI, three runs, double) and Brae Mason. Ethan Vander Plaats (3 for 4, three RBI, double, three runs) had two hits and two runs in the inning, leading off with a double and then singling in Girardi. Vander Plaats scored on a single by Jacob Hern (2 for 4, RBI) and a single by Deegan Vrieling.
The Phillies put it away with a five-run fourth. Cloward plated Ryder Heuvel with a double, Case Escalante and Cloward came in on a double by Herrick with Herrick and Girardi scoring on a Vander Plaats single.
Girardi went the first three innings on the mound, yielding six hits and three runs while striking out six and walking one. Vander Plaats mopped up the fourth inning, going 1-2-3 with two strikeouts.
The Giants got their first run in the second inning when Dylan McKee scored on an error off the bat of Alec Lopez. They added two more runs in the third when Clark Fullmer (2 for 2, RBI, run) singled in Ayden Brown and Fullmer scored on an infield single by Reid Yamasaki.
