RC handles Gustine in league opener

Ripon Christian is off to a sizzling start to its Southern Athletic League defense, routing visiting Gustine on Tuesday, 25-6, 25-6, 25-6.

The Knights (1-0, 6-2 overall) totaled 38 kills, against five hitting errors, and 21 service aces. Setter Megan Weststeyn assisted every kill.

Jordan Vander Veen led the way with 16 kills and three aces. Taylor Postma contributed five kills and six aces. Sydney Hoffman also had five kills, and Leah Van Wyngarden fired five aces. Ava Van Groningen chipped in three kills, five digs and a block.  

 

Ripon Christian 3, Tracy 0

The Knights had one final tune-up for their league opener, sweeping host Tracy (1-3) 25-15, 25-15, 25-12 on Labor Day.

Van Wyngarden racked up a whopping 11 service aces, accounting for her team’s 18. She also had eight digs. Avery McMurray and Hoffman each had seven kills. Hoffman was efficient in her 11 attempts on the attack and had no hitting errors. McMurray added eight digs.

Weststeyn totaled 30 assists, while Ava Van Groningen netted two blocks.

 

Sierra 3, Gregori 1

Zoe Kossart collected 13 kills, 15 digs and five aces, and Rebecca Thomson amassed 45 assists to help the Timberwolves (8-0) roll to a 23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-13 road win.

Zophia Marian and Abigail Chapman added eight and seven kills, respectively. Jenna Dalen picked up 13 digs.

 

Freshman

Gregori 2, Sierra 0

Sierra came up short, 25-25, 16-25.

Maitland Kohoutek posted three aces, two kills and a block. Danica Cesante handed out four assists. Kailyn Owen had two kills and an ace.
