Anna Dittman was the individual winner for a second straight Valley Oak League cross country cluster meet Wednesday at Mistlin Sports Complex.
The Sierra junior finished the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 36.1 seconds, well ahead of second-place finisher Emma-Lynn Hogan (19:58.8) of Central Catholic.
Oakdale, however, repeated as the top team for both boys and girls. Oakdale’s boys nipped the Timberwolves head-to-head, 26-29. The Mustangs’ Weston McGhee was the top male placer in 16:36.4. He was followed by Sierra’s Sebastien Paterson (16:39.6) and Max Perez (16:46.2).
In the girls race, East Union’s Alysia Sinclair was third overall in 20:09.5. Avina Harrington (21:39.6) and Paisley Coenenberg (21:58.4) were eighth and 10th overall for Manteca. Sierra’s Alyssa Rodriguez (21:44.8) was ninth, and teammate Khamylle Bollengier (22:27.1) took 11th.
Sierra had three boys runners in the top 10. Alvin Varghese came in eighth in 17:06.4. East Union was paced by sophomore Elijah Galvan (17:25.6), while Emanuel Saldana (17:46.2) led Manteca.
In the lower levels, Sierra’s Linkin Bailey won the 2-mile JV boys in 12:04.3 Savannah Martin (15:53.1) and Eliza Blessan (15:53.4) were 2-3 in frosh-soph girls.
Trans Valley League
Ripon sophomore Carmelo Rodriguez was the varsity boys runner-up in 17:25.7, trailing only Sonora’s Landon Wilson (17:10.3). Host Sonora was the top boys team in the mid-season meet held at Wildcat Ranch.
Hughson took first in the girls competition and was led by individual winner Grace Benitez (20:02.2). Ripon had two top-10 placers in Sophia Jung (fourth, 21:15.0) and Paige Thomas (eighth, 23:30.5).
Ripon was the top squad in JV boys and girls. Brody Trask was the boys runner-up in 12:30.9, while Noeli Jimenez (15:45.3) and Grace Suarez (16:07.0) were the second and third girls, respectively.
Western Athletic Conference
Freshman Monserrath Santillan (13th, 22:01.0) was Lathrop’s top female runner in the second conference cluster meet held at O’Neill Forebay.
Raul Vides (16th, 18:07.4), also a freshman, spearheaded the Spartans boys.
Lathrop topped the frosh-soph girls field, with Juliana Escamilla placing fourth in 16:16.9.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Lathrop 28, Pacheco 0
The Spartans (8-0, 13-2 overall) further widened their lead in the WAC standings, putting forth a dominant effort. Second-place Pacheco (5-3, 7-5) now trails the reigning champions by three games.
Sareah Reed starred defensively in the shutout, as she racked up nine flag pulls, two pass break-ups and an interception returned for a touchdown.
Morgan Hegler highlighted the offense with a 58-yard touchdown reception, finishing with seven catches for 118 yards. Quarterback Aviahna Calderon threw for 232 yards and three TDs. Ja’Leiyah Ray (three receptions, 35 yards) and Aaliyah Thompson (three receptions, 43 yards) added one touchdown catch apiece.
Sierra 36, Mountain House 6
Kayla Amarante anchored the Timberwolves (5-2 VOL, 10-6 overall) on both sides of scrimmage, catching nine passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, she was the team co-leader with five flag pulls to go with an interceptions.
Mountain House (1-6, 3-14) could not slow down quarterback Tessa Zalunardo, who was 23 of 31 for 231 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. The junior also rushed for 93 yards and a TD on nine carries.
Jayleen Lopez amassed five sacks on defense. Felisa Cruz-Olenhouse scored twice on six catches for 52 yards.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Manteca 3, Central Catholic 2
In Modesto, the Buffaloes (6-2, 13-4 overall) escaped with its second-place position in the VOL still intact. They held off Central Catholic (3-5, 9-14) 25-13, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9 thanks to massive efforts from their core players.
Taimane Tu’uga slugged a whopping 29 kills while picking up 15 digs and serving a pair of aces.
Setter Katie Anderson also recorded a double-double with 33 assists, 16 digs and two aces. Middle blocker Trinity Todd tallied 12 kills, five blocks and five digs. Maddie Nunes registered 33 digs, and Lana Bondoc had 11 to go with three assists.
Lathrop 3, Pacheco 0
Make that 15 straight wins for Lathrop (8-0 WAC, 16-3 overall), which also secured 14th consecutive sweep, 25-17, 25-13, 25-13 at Pacheco (5-3, 9-16).
Siliana Fa’ataualofa (two aces, six digs) and Erin Chunn (nine digs) led the Spartans’ balanced attack with nine kills apiece. Araya Carson clobbered eight kills, and Breanna Wiseman pitched in six kills and three solo blocks.
Sariah Hilton tallied 33 assists, three aces and three kills. Jadore Dixon contributed 17 digs, 14 service points and two aces.
JV flag football
Lathrop 28, Pacheco 0
Alexia Garcia connected on touchdown passes of 7 and 31 yards to Ailyn Alcaraz, who finished with six catches for 68 yards.
Ryleigh Race reeled in two interceptions for the defense, adding a sack for a safety.
