Manteca won five of the six singles matches, and it was enough for the Buffaloes to overcome host Sierra 5-4 on Tuesday and remain unbeaten in Valley Oak League girls tennis.
It was one-sided in the top third of the ladder, with No. 1 Hailie Kim blanking Mikayla Villalobos, and No. 3 Rae Limbago shutting out Xitali Gonzalez, 6-0, 6-0.
Reina Ngo took the No. 2 singles match for the Buffaloes (4-0 VOL, 8-5-1 overall) 6-0, 6-1 against Ruth Beedi. Pailsey Coenenberg swept at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1 against Sasha Martin. Ekam Ghuman downed Mia Soza in the No. 6 match, 6-2, 6-3.
Sierra (2-2 VOL, 6-3 overall) got its lone singles win from No. 4 Aishwarya Bollu, who outlasted Saihaj Guman, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
The doubles matches belonged to Sierra.
Bhavika Karthikeyan and Janessa Felix swept Ziqi Huang and Caitlynn Vu at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-1. Nadine Yamomo and Niya Pini defeated Naomi Navarro and Juliana Ros 6-3, 6-4 in the third doubles contest.
The only match decided in a third set was at No. 2 doubles. Sadie Herrera and Evelin Garcia fended off Alyson Alvarado and Cataleya Estrada Perez, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.
Sierra will look to bounce back Thursday at Oakdale, while Manteca hosts Mountain House in a first-place battle.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Manteca 3, Weston Ranch 2
The surging Buffaloes (9-3) traveled to Stockton for a non-league match and handed Weston Ranch (10-1) its first loss, 17-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-23, 15-10.
They were headed by Taimane Tu’uga’s 21 kills and 24 digs. Middle Trinity Todd contributed 16 kills to the attack, while leading the front-row defense with three blocks. Aricieli McBroom pitched in 11 kills, 11 digs, three aces and three assists.
Katie Anderson dished out 36 assists, while producing three kills and 11 digs. Maddie Nunes collected 17 digs, Chloe Martin added 15 and Lana Bondoc had 10 digs and a pair of aces.
GIRLS GOLF
Central Valley 282, Lathrop 291
Audrey Rico was low medalist with a 66 to lead visiting Central Valley to the Western Athletic Conference win at Manteca Park Golf Course.
Shelby Jauregui paced Lathrop with a 68, and Rachel Rami had a 69. Evangelina Quezada and Savanna Quezada added a 76 and 78, respectively.
