ROUNDUP: Buffs quickly dispatch Lathrop

Manteca was solid in every facet of its 25-11, 25-13, 25-8 non-league win at Lathrop on Monday.

The Buffaloes (4-2) were coming off a third-place finish in the Stockton Classic Varsity Kick-off.

Nicole Ayala accumulated seven digs, 15 service points and four aces for Manteca. Setter Jessica Almeida delivered 12 assists but was also productive from the service line with 15 points and four aces.

Courtney Washburn commanded the front row, finishing with 13 kills, five blocks and three aces. Michaela Singh added five kills, nine service points and two aces.

Alaba Olaleye paced Lathrop with six kills and five digs. Camila De La Garza had eight assists, and Irais Martinez picked up seven digs. Azul Maldonado finished with three kills and four digs.

Manteca hosts Ripon Christian on Wednesday, while the Spartans (1-2) open Western Athletic Conference play at Ceres.

 

Sierra 3, Downey 1

In Modesto, the Timberwolves (7-0) dropped their first set of the season but remains undefeated following the 25-22, 23-25, 25-14, 25-22 win.

Zoe Kossart and Becca Thomson spearheaded Sierra’s attack with 19 kills and 36 assists, respectively. Sophia Marian added 12 kills and secured the final point of the match on her third spike of sequence. Abby Chapman anchored the front-row defense with six blocks, and Jenna Dalen registered 13 digs.

 

East Union 3, Los Banos 0

The Lancers (5-2) rolled to a 25-21, 25-21, 25-16 non-league win at home.

Sophomore Katelyn Trevino led the offense with six kills, and Mariela Navarro contributed four. Meritiana Luani collected 10 digs and four aces.

Marcella Carrenza tallied seven assists and two aces, while Makayla Viri chipped in five assists. 

 

Junior varsity

East Union 2, Los Banos 0

Laura Montanez fired eight aces to highlight the Lancers’ 25-11, 25-17 sweep.

Isabella Rodriguez chipped in five aces. Gisele Velazquez had three aces and two kills. Izabella Avalos hammered four kills.

 

Manteca 2, Lathrop 0

The visiting Buffaloes held on to win, 25-21, 25-19,

Jayana Dias turned in 10 assists and six assists for the victors. Peyton McDonald pounded six kills, and Bella Medina chipped in four.

Julia Roaquin had eight assists, three digs and two aces for Lathrop. Zoe Cejas keyed the defense with six digs, Alina Ledezma blasted three kills, while Annie Millan had four digs.

 

Freshman

Manteca 2, Lathrop 1

Sienna Lowery tallied 10 aces and four assists to help Manteca come back for a 21-25, 25-17, 15-8 win.

Saniyah Anthony registered four kills, two aces and two digs. Riley Ward chimed in with four aces and assists.
