ROUNDUP: Lathrop football game is canceled

Lathrop High has called off its varsity football game set for tonight against Grace Davis.

Athletic director Chuck Selna informed the Bulletin of the cancellation Thursday night, adding that the JV game is still on for a 5 o'clock start.

The varsity team is now in quarantine after a member tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Modesto Bee. Grace Davis coach Tim Garcia told the Bee he was still in search of a replacement opponent.

Lathrop (0-1) also had its scrimmage against East Union get canceled two weeks ago. The Spartans are next scheduled to play Patterson on the road on Thursday, April 1. Their final home game is the following week against Beyer on Friday, April 9.


Sierra 9, Ripon 0 

The host Timberwolves had their way in a quick match that did not include any doubles contests.

Quentin Banks won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. He was followed by Jason Machado (6-1, 6-2), David Martin Jr. (6-0, 6-0), Zach Van Zwaluenburg (6-1, 6-4), David Nasser (6-1, 6-3) and Aaron Crawford (6-1, 6-1). 

Central Catholic 9, East Union 0

East Union could not keep pace with the top Valley Oak League team. 

Matthew Trinidad lost to Raiders No. 1 Evan Corsiglia 1-6, 1-6. Other Lancers competing were Kelton D'Souza (2-6, 0-6), Daniel Ngo (0-6, 3-6), Tristan Santos (3-6, 1-6), Dominic Ochoa (3-6, 1-6), Landon Wolfe/Benjamin Potter (3-6, 1-6) and Bradley Phippen/Nigel Naidu (1-6, 0-6). East Union forfeited at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles.
