ROUNDUP: Matuska’s 10 kills lead Ripon to volleyball sweep of Hilmar

Danika Matuska clobbered 10 kills, spearheading a balanced offensive effort for the Ripon girls volleyball team in a 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 sweep Monday at Hilmar.

The Indians improved to 3-1 in the Trans-Valley League, 13-7 overall.

Makenzie Loechler added five kills and five blocks (three solo). Katherine Eskes (two blocks), Kylee Fullmer and Taryn Escola (block) also had five kills apiece.

Kaya Whittaker tallied 18 assists, four digs and four aces. Reagan Wilkerson finished with nine digs.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

Central Catholic 5, Sierra 4

A pair of three-set losses proved to be the difference in this Valley Oak League match last Friday.

Tanya Sharma knocked off Mianna Robinson 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match, but the host Raiders won the rest. Central No. 3 Kiley Freitas edged out Navleen Dosanjh 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, and No. 6 Katy Houghton outlasted Sierra’s Jaden Alton, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, Sierra’s No. 1 tandem of Simran Dosanjh and Amber Garza cruised, 6-1, 6-1. The second duo of Munveer Dosanjh and Kimmely Mejia prevailed, 6-4, 6-4. No. 3 Natalie Mejia and Noor Dhillon held on for the 6-0, 3-6, 10-5 victory.

Ripon wins Stockton Classic

The undefeated Indians (14-0) went 4-0 in winning all four of their matches for the Franklin High site championship on Saturday.

They started with pool play, earning two-set wins over West, 25-6, 25-16, and Liberty Ranch, 25-17, 25-20. In the championship bracket, Ripon squeaked out a 25-12, 19-25, 15-12 victory over Sierra. The Indians then vanquished Oakdale in the title match, 25-18, 25-9.

Leading the charge was Shayla McKeon, who totaled 28 kills, six aces, 13 digs and three blocks. Setter Katelyn Bogetti added 12 aces, seven digs, three blocks, nine kills and 73 assists.

Amelia Lara recorded 21 kills, 10 digs and six aces. Brynn Stock collected 24 digs and four aces. Abby Stewart had 14 kills and seven aces.

 

Ripon 2, Hilmar 0

Ripon moved to 4-0 in the VOL after defeating Hilmar 25-12, 25-19 on the road.

Bogetti accumulated 20 assists, six aces, three digs, two kills and two blocks.

Shayla McKeon fired seven kills and three aces. Lara chipped in six kills and four digs. Stewart hammered five kills, and Stock picked up seven digs.

The Indians swept, 25-9, 25-15.

Addison Naranjo (three digs, ace), Olivia Taylor (two aces, dig, three assists) and Kyra Schnenger (four aces, dig, two kills, four assists). were the standouts for R

 

Sierra 2, River Islands 0

The Timberwolves had their way in the 25-9, 25-18 victory.

Danica Cesante amassed seven assists, five aces and four digs. Kailyn Owen served three aces.
