The Trans-Valley League champion Ripon girls soccer team continued its dominance Friday, defeating Escalon 3-1 for its 13th straight win.
Twelve players were recognized for senior night in front of a good-sized crowd at Wes Stouffer Field. Among them was standout striker Olivia Maragos, who scored two of the goals. She was assisted by fellow seniors Rylee Agbayani and Jordyn Meeuwse in the sixth and 23rd minutes, respectively.
Madelyn Reedy assisted sophomore Danielle Rey in the 32nd minute. Ripon (11-0, 16-3-1 overall) outshot the Cougars (1-8-2, 3-10-6), 26-4. Goalkeeper Ellena Parenti had two saves.
The Indians close out the regular season Monday at Hilmar.
Ripon Christian 1, Orestimba 0
The Sac-Joaquin Section’s No. 1-ranked Division VI team picked up its second 1-0 win of the week on Friday.
Alanna Blanco’s goal was enough for the Knights (6-5 TVL, 12-7-1 overall), who had a 23-5 shot advantage. Goalie Morgan Schenk and the defense picked up their third shutout in four matches.
Ripon Christian welcomes Sonora for its league finale on Monday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Patterson 46, Manteca 38
The race for the third and final automatic playoff berth in the Valley Oak League has heated up with the Buffaloes’ loss on senior night.
The difference was a 14-4 third quarter for Patterson (4-7, 11-16), giving it a 35-26 lead.
Jayden Scarver paced Manteca (6-4, 12-14) with nine points, Tyler Watkins had eight and Johan Peringelil seven. The Buffs finish regular-season play next Wednesday at Central Catholic and Feb. 14 at East Union. Manteca and East Union are currently tied for third place.
Ripon Christian 47, Escalon 44
With its top player nursing an injured knee, Ripon Christian (9-1, 20-5 overall) managed to avoid an upset while maintaining its top spot in the TVL.
Escalon (5-5, 15-11) led 23-16 at halftime, but the Knights came alive in the third quarter and outscored the visiting Cougars, 20-9.
Amos Cady led the second-half charge, scoring 13 of his 17 points over the final two periods. Chase Bunnell and Mason Tameling scored 10 points apiece. The Knights were without Jake Vander Veen (MCL strain) one night after he hit the game-winning shot at Ripon.
Logan Huebner and Ryan Lewis fired 14 and 12 points, respectively, for Escalon.
Ripon 57, Sonora 41
The Indians (8-2, 16-10 overall) traveled to Bud Castle Gym and avenged one of their TVL losses in convincing fashion. An 18-6 second quarter helped Ripon stake a 31-22 lead.
Marcus Madoski went off for 26 points, hitting three 3-pointers in the first half while making nine of 12 free throws. Ethan Bauer and Logan Lefebvre added 12 points apiece.
Sonora (8-3, 17-9) was led by Jonathan Curran’s 23 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Ripon 32, Sonora 25
Tati Perez produced seven points and four blocks, helping Ripon (10-0, 17-9 overall) secure at least a piece of the TVL title.
Leila Sanchez also scored seven points, and Shayla McKeon pumped in all six of her points in the third quarter while grabbing eight rebounds overall .
Sonora (5-6, 9-13) was headed by Ella Kaiser’s 12 points.
JV boys basketball
Manteca 62, Patterson 53
Madden Melendez exploded for 24 points in the Manteca win.
Mohammed Awan and David Noble netted eight points apiece.
Frosh boys basketball
Sierra 48, Oakdale 40 (OT)
Jack Taylor’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer forced the overtime period. All of the Timberwolves’ points in overtime were made from the free-throw line, where they were a perfect 8-for-8.
Kiran Tran led the way with 11 points. Cayden Hughes, Jaysen Martinez and Travis Rose chipped in eight apiece.
Manteca 41, Patterson 33
Malachi Mix led the Buffaloes with 11 points. Bode Hiatt contributed eight, and Brody Carabello had six.
