Manteca inches closer to VOL title after dispatching CC

Sierra took a step closer toward qualifying for the postseason Thursday with its one-sided 8-1 Valley Oak League victory over visiting East Union.

No. 5 singles player Grace Langenfeld recorded the only 6-0, 6-0 shutout of the match, and the Timberwolves dominated all three doubles matches.

Tanya Sharma took care of Samantha Edley at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Manogna Vecravalli avoided a third set in the No. 4 contest, fending off Miranda Renter, 6-1, 7-6.

No. 2 Maryn Petersen (6-1, 6-0) and No. 6 Jaden Alton 6-2, 6-0 also swept. The Lancers’ lone win came from No. 3 singles player Trinity Pacheco, who fended off Navleen Dosanjh, 6-3, 6-1.

Winning pairs in doubles play were Amber Garza/Simran Dosanjh (6-0, 6-1), Kennelly Mejia/Munveer Dosanjh (6-1, 6-0) and Lauren Byrd/Natalie Mejia (6-1, 6-0).

 

Manteca 6, Central Catholic 3

The Buffaloes (7-0) came away with a big road win in Modesto, putting themselves in position to capture the outright VOL crown.

Nos. 5 and 6 singles players Jenna Poncini and Christina Nguyen were instrumental, earning key wins in competitive matches. Poncini dispatched Cordilia Essers 6-2, 7-5, while Nguyen outlasted Gulsayn Grewal 6-7(1), 6-3, 6-1.

Katie Kim cruised 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles against Mianna Robinson. Emma Ngo (6-2, 6-2, and Shreya Raman (6-4, 6-1) won at 3 and 4 singles.

The No. 3 pair of Guadalupe Mercado and Michailla Springs picked up Manteca’s only win at doubles, 6-2, 6-3.
